A Message From

Pastor Jacob

The Lord be with you!

Jesus our Savior has promised to be with us always.

Each week He invites us to gather together as children of His family.  We come in order to

be blessed through the proclamation of His Sacred Word and to receive His Sacraments of grace.  We come also to encourage one another as His precious sons and daughters.

[Jesus] said to [his disciples], “Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, and that repentance and forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning in Jerusalem.” St. Luke 24:46-47

A Little Information About Us

  •                Who is Pastor Jacob?

Rev. Ricky Jacob, former missionary to Sierra Leone, West Africa, has served the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska for the past 21 years. His wife, Kim, of thirty years, and their children Evan, Kelly and Sierra have assisted him over these years at Jesus Our Savior Lutheran Outreach, church and school.

  •                What is Pastor Jacob's History?

Pastor Jacob attended Grace Ev. Lutheran Church and Elementary School in Chicago. He graduated from Northern Illinois University with a B.S. in Business Management. He worked as a purchasing agent for a safety distributor in Chicago for five years prior to attending Concordia Seminary in St. Louis. It was there that he met and married Kim.

Pastor Jacob’s first call was to the Kono tribe of Sierra Leone, West Africa. While he was serving as an evangelistic missionary training twelve Kono gospel preachers, Kim gave birth to Evan and then Kelly. They had to leave their Kono brothers and sisters in Christ due to warfare.

Pastor Jacob then accepted a call from the Nebraska District to serve as a missionary-at-large to the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska. Over the years the ministry expanded to include Word and Sacrament ministry, beginning Reformation Sunday in 1995, annual vacation bible school, weekly Sunday school and Bible class at the Outreach and the Winnebago Youth Shelter. The ministry now includes a preschool since the fall of 1997, and an elementary school that began in the fall of 2009.

Pastor Jacob serves as an associate member of Lutheran Indian Ministry, on the Winnebago Senior Citizen Center advisory council, and recently as the circuit counselor for the West Point circuit.

  •                About Jesus Our Savior Lutheran Outreach

There has been a Christian presence in Winnebago for many years, but Pastor Jacob began his ministry here in 1993. He has provided a strong Lutheran message to the people of this area since then. His ministry has grown, by the grace of God, from reaching out to the youth of Winnebago to a Word and Sacrament ministry for the entire community.

Pastor Jacob offers many opportunities for spiritual learning and growth. There is Divine worship and Sunday school every week, as well as home Bible studies and weekly confirmation classes. He also makes visits to those in jail, treatment centers, and hospitals. Every week he also leads a spiritual talking circle, as well as a Divine service, at the Ho-Chunk Youth Facility.

This ministry is involved in the community and is reaching out in many different ways. Each summer there is Vacation Bible School for the children of the community, taught by volunteers from other LCMS congregations. They have also started basketball camps, where they are able to witness while teaching the fundamentals of the sport.

In 1998, Jesus Our Savior Lutheran Preschool was started.  This preschool welcomes three and four year-olds to come and learn about their Lord and Savior in an educational environment.

The vision for this ministry is to establish a Christ-centered, Native-led ministry that offers Word and Sacrament ministry and is supported by the community.

Pastor Jacob, the preschool teacher, Mrs. Tietz,  continue to work to bring the Good News of our Lord and Savior to the entire community of Winnebago.
